The city is the county seat of Prahova County and lies in the historical region of Wallachia in Romania. Though likely settled much earlier, Ploiesti was first mentioned in documents in the 16th century, during the reign of Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave), Prince of Wallachia. Ploiesti lies in the center of Muntenia, in the central-northern part of the Romanian Plain. It lies close to the capital city Ploiesti and it had close connections with the capital city throughout the centuries. |
