Kisangani, is the capital of Orientale Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Henry Morton Stanley founded Stanley Falls Station in 1883, on the Island of Wana Rusari in the Congo River near the present town of Kisangani. Kisangani is strategically placed at the junction of the Congo, Tshopo, and Lindi rivers and at the crossroads between eastern and western Congo. Approximately central of the African continent, it is located in North-eastern Republique Democratique du Congo (RDC), central of Tshopo Province. |
