Lhasa is a city and administrative capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Lhasa literally means "place of the gods". By the mid 7th century, Songtson Gampo became the leader of the Tibetan Empire that had risen to power in the Brahmaputra River Valley. Chengguan District is located on the middle reaches of the Lhasa River, a tributary of the Brahmaputra River, with land that rises to the north and south of the river. |
