Marseille is the largest city of the South of France, the 2nd largest city of France and the 30th largest city of Europe. It is the capital of the region Provence Alpes Cote d´Azur and of the Departement Bouches du Rhone. The city is located on the Mediterranian Sea. Marseille is divided into 16 arrondissements. The name Marseilles comes from the Greek name "Massalia". Massalia was founded in 600 BC and was the first port the Greeks had in Western Europe. In I480 Marseille became part of France. The I9th century was the Golden Age of Marseille due to Industrial Innovations and Colonial Trade. Today the city is dominated by its port which is the most important commercial port of the Mediterranean. The TGV Mediterannee connecting Marseille Gare St Charges to Paris Gare de Lyon within 3 hours revitalised the city in many aspects.
