Nice (in French Nice - in Italia Nizza) is the largest city on the Cote d'Azur, the 5th largest city of France and the 2xxth largest city of Europe. The city is located on the Mediterranian Sea 40 km from the Italian Border. The city is divided into 14 cantons. The name "Nice" comes from "Nike" the Greek Godness of victory, infact it received the name "Nikaia" after a vitorry of the first Greek settelers. During history Nice switched from beeing part of Italy or Italian KIngdoms like Savoy or beeing part of France. It is only scince 1860 that the city is now part of France beeing la Prefecture of the Department Alpes Maritimes. The city is famous for the Promenade des Anglais, one of the world's most famous beach avenues. In fact during a rough winter the city was invaded by poor Beggars. Some rich Englishmen that had chooses the Cote d'Azur as their winter residence, had the idea to propose a useful project: the construction of a walkway (chemin de promennade) The Walkway was first called " Camin dei Anglès (the English Way)" before beeing renamed to "Promennade des Anglais" The numbering sheme of the Prommendae goes from 2 to 2 starting with the Savoy Palace on Number 3, |
