Mettlach is a small and beautiful city
the 32th largest city
of the Saarland, the smallest State of Germany.
The city is located on the river Saar at the very end of the famous "Saarschleife"
near the border of France and Luxembourg.
Mettlach is divided into 10 neigborhoods (Ortsteile):
Bethingen, Dreisbach, Faha, Mettlach, Nohn,
Orscholz, Saarhoelzbach, Tuensdorf, Wehingen, Weiten
The name Mettlach comes from the latin name "Medio Lacum"
which means in between lakes - in fact Mattlach was located
in between different lakes -
only one is remaining in the Parc of the Old Abbey.
Mettlach was founded in 676 by St Luitwinus, later Bishop of Trier.
1974 Mettlach and 9 neighbouring towns were incorporated as

Mettlach was the home of the designer Helen von Boch.
The ceramics she created brough prosperity to the city.
Her most famous designs are "Wildrose",
"Geranium" or "La Boule / Die Kugel".

partly invented in the city in 2000
