Muelheim an der Ruhr is the 44th largest city of Germany. Muelheim is the 18th largest city of the German State Nordrhein Westfalen. The city is located on the river Ruhr neighboring the cities of Essen, Duisburg, Oberhausen and Duesseldorf. Muelheim is divided into 9 neigborhoods (Stadtteile): Altstadt, Styrum, Duempten, Heissen, Menden, Saarn, Broich, Speldorf. The name Muelheim comes from the name "xx". Muelheim was founded around 1093. Industrialisation of Muelheim started in 1770 when the river Ruhr became navigable. 1846 Muelheim received city rights from the state of Prussia. |
